Cayce police have completed an investigation of an incident Dec. 9 at Airport High School.
The Public Safety Department said 6 to 7 students ages 15-17 engaged in a violent, physical altercation.
An Airport High officer used a stun gun on a student to break up the fight.
“We have thoroughly investigated the incident and reviewed the use of force,” a department news release said.
“We have determined that the use of force by the School Resource Officer was reasonable and necessary after numerous attempts to verbally and physically de-escalate the altercation between the students were ignored.
“It is further determined that the deployment of the officer’s electronic control device (Taser) was used because of the continued, active resistance of 1 student who posed imminent danger to the many students involved in the altercation itself, as well as the other students, teachers and staff in the area.
“To date, 5 students involved in the violence have been arrested and charged with assault and battery in the 3rd degree.”
