Wishing everyone a very blessed and Merry Christmas!

The Pelion Ruritan

recently celebrated Christmas with a catered meal by Sweet Magnolias. The Pelion High choral group performed for the members before the meeting. Each member of the group was presented with a mug. Officers for the 2019 year were installed. A Christmas wreath has been placed at the Pelion Ruritan Veterans Memorial.

Pelion Elementary School’s third, fourth, and fifth grade students will perform “A Party in a Pear Tree” at 6 pm December 20 at the Pelion Performing Arts Center. Everyone is invited to come and support our talented elementary students. December 21 is a PES Spirit and Hat Day. Students are reminded to wear their PES shirts. If they would like to wear a hat, the cost is $1. Proceeds go to “Relay for Life.” The Sole Stepping Shoe Distribution took place on December 13. Students whose parents signed up to participate received a brand new pair of shoes and socks. There were a lot of very excited students wearing their new footwear! Students will get the opportunity to “Shop for a Book” December

20. Each student can choose a book to take home and keep. Thanks to Jennifer Ham-rick, the literacy coach, for arranging this event. The PTO will serve doughnuts and hot chocolate to students during the school’s “Winter Wonderland” on December 20.

Forts Pond Elementary students received a new pair of shoes and socks thanks to the Sole Stepping Shoe Distribution on December 13. All Pro Dads and Mallard Moms will meet for light breakfast treats December 21 in the school cafeteria. Currently, Zach Shealy’s fifth grade class is ranked 63rd nationally and first in state district in First in Math. The 4-K – First grade music performance was a great success on December 6. The cafeteria/gym was “standing room only” with a full house of excited family members. A big thank you to Mrs. Gatch, the fabulous music teacher.

The library will be closed December 24 through December 26.

Happy birthday to Kay Collings and Frank Shumpert.
