Saving time is not my ‘thing’

Welcome daylight savings time! That extra hour of sleep was refreshing to some, and getting home from work in the dark will be frustrating for others.

George Hudson, in 1895, was the first person to come up with the concept of moving time forward. In 1902, William Willett proposed the idea to the English Parliament to prevent wasting daylight. Germany, in 1916, wanted to save energy and moved its time clocks to do so. England followed suit by moving their clocks. On March 9, 1918, the US Congress put into law the idea of “saving time.” I would like to “save time” but also “find more time.” But, I’m not sure this change on the clock makes me any more efficient!

Tis the season for holiday markets! The Chapin High School marching band will have its 4th annual holiday market November 16, 9 am-3 pm at the CHS Gymnasium.

Lake Murray Association’s public meeting will be November 12 at 6:30 pm at Macedonia Lutheran Church. Be informed-about winter lake levels, changes, and updates on beautiful Lake Murray.

The Red Cross is in

critical need of blood donors. Generations of Chapin, l431 Boundary Street,, is having a blood drive November 11, 10 am-3 pm.

The Broad River Road widening being paid for by the Richland County Penny Tax is being redesigned from a 5 lane to a 3 lane widening. The new start date is projected to be 2022

Welcome Chapin’s new Zoning Administrator, Ian Ashford. He was the former community planner in Fairfield County and is a Texas Long Horn Fan. Perhaps we can convert him to a fan of the USC Gamecocks!
