There were 6 Chronicle Country teams who qualified for the SC High School League competitive cheer championships at the Florence Civic Center this past Saturday.
After 2 Top 3 finishes the past 2 years, Lexington High School emerged as the Class 5A champion. The Lady Wildcats edged defending champion Chapin 340- 337 to halt the Lady Eagles’ quest for a 6th consecutive title and state-record 16th overall. It was Lexington’s 6th overall title. River Bluff finished in 3rd place, followed by St. James in 4th and Dutch Fork in 5th to give Region 5-5A 4 teams in the Top 5. Lexington School District 2 schools Brookland-Cayce and Airport also reached the state finals. The Lady Bearcats placed 9th in Class 3A and the Lady Eagles tied for 5th with Catawba Ridge in Class 4A.
