The South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Probation Services has announced a new program aimed at assisting offenders with finding employment since 26% of the state’s active offender population are currently unemployed.
The department is distributing 21 laptops to local county offices. The laptops are equipped with wireless modems so users do not have to connect to a Wi-Fi network and also have different programs to help offenders create resumes, cover letters and presentations, the press release said.
The laptops can also be used for offenders to complete their required programs to meet the conditions of their probation. This includes Batterer’s Intervention, Substance Use Education and Sex Offender Treatment.
The laptops will rotate throughout the county offices depending on usage to improve access for all offenders across the state. All laptop use will be monitored and will not be loaned out on an individual basis.
