Welcome back to the adventure of a new school year to all students and teachers! A big thank you for all those who came out for the Back to School prayer walk. The Chapin Ministerial Association has organized the prayer walk for more than 15 years. It is beautiful when the community comes together in unity to pray.  

Our communities and libraries have a plethora of programs for all ages. Crochet and knitting keep the hands and mind busy, Saturday, September 1 from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Chapin Library, one can learn basic techniques and advanced stitches.  Call 803-345-5479

You need to write your life story!  The Ir-mo Library can help. Get creative ideas, writing prompts, and feedback in this program September 4, 3-4 p.m. Registration is required; call 803-789-7880.  

Like to sing? The Dutch Fork Choral society begins rehearsals for the 2018-2019 season September 4 at 7 p.m. at Chapin UMC.  The fees are $60, and no auditions are needed. All voice parts are needed. Call Jim Buck at 803-318-0488.   

Mt. Horeb in Chapin has a new Associate Pastor, the Rev. Joanna Gragg.  A North Carolina native, she started off as a teacher, then graduated from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in May 2018.

Contestants needed for the Interfaith Partners art and photography competition for students in kindergarten through college. The theme is harmonious relations, dignity, and respect for all people. Artwork may be two-dimensional or multimedia. Winners will receive prizes at the Peace in the Park Festival October 7 in Columbia.  Visit www.interfaithpartnersofsc.org for info.  

 The Chapin Labor Day Festival starts Sept 1 with the Chapin Farmer’s market on Clark Street, 9 a.m.-noon. Live music with Anthony Charles and the Blues Dolphins street party is Sept 2 on Beaufort Street. The parade begins on September 3 at 9:30 a.m. at the GIS parking lot. Classic Cars will be on display in the Mt. Horeb parking lot on Beaufort Street. Vendors, food, crafts and more family fun will be on tap!
