Schools uncertain when, where to hold graduations

Posted

Lexington County educators have been unable to decide when and where to hold graduation ceremonies.

Many will have to find other locations since Colonial Life Arena is closed until at least August 1.

“We are still exploring options, including alternative dates and sites,” Katrina Goggins of District 5 in Chapin and Irmo said.

“The district is under the governor’s executive order of closure. Until this closure is lifted, the district is not prepared to make decisions. We will continue to support and celebrate the Class of 2020, while remaining hopeful that events like these can still occur.”

Dawn Kujawa of District 2 in the Cayce-West Columbia area said the cancellation of Colonial Life events will not affect graduation “since we hold graduation at our high schools. We’ve made no decisions at this time with the governor’s executive orders in effect for school closures.”
