Gilbert Pack 60 Scouts will begin their 2019 meetings this week. Den leaders are excited that 58 new Scouts have committed to being members of Pack 60.

Awards will be given to many Scouts at the meeting. In February they will have the annual Blue and Gold Banquet where they will share the pack’s accomplishments, recognize leaders and celebrate their 109th anniversary. The AOL Scouts will earn their Arrow of Light awards at this meeting.

In early February, Pack 60 will collect nonperishable food for two weekends for the “Scouting for Food” drive. Scout Sunday will be held February 10. Pack 60 Scouts will participate in local church services by helping with small chores to receive a special badge. For information on Gilbert Pack 60 Scouts, email gilbertscoutspack60@gmail.com .

Cotton Branch Animal Sanctuary will have its monthly Volunteer WorkLuck February 9, 10:45 am to 3 pm. After a morning of doing chores at the farm, there will be a vegan potluck luncheon. Spend the morning with their farm animals, working on their care and meeting with other volunteers in the community. For information, visit www.cottonbranch.org .

Congratulations to Sherry Hollis, who recently was awarded Gilbert Middle School Staff Person of the Year.

Gilbert High School Council members will sell their first Tomahawk Fest tee shirts to GHS students. Profits will be donated to Katrina’s Kids, which is a nonprofit organization that provides resources for foster children and children living in group homes.

Beulah United Methodist Church will offer free blood screenings February 4, from 7:30-9:30 am. The screenings will be conducted by Lexington Medical Center. To schedule an appointment, call Alice Wallace at 892-3161.

Beulah UMC invites the community to hear the Southern Gospel Kingsmen Quartet January 27 at 6 pm. The Kingsmen Quartet has been performing for more than 50 years and has won numerous musical awards in Gospel Music. The church is at 161 Beulah Church Road off of US 378.

Creative rock artists have been sharing their painted rocks all over our country. Recently, two were found in Charleston and in Indiana. The finders took pictures and posted their finds on the Gilbert Rocks Facebook page. There are still many hidden in our Gilbert Community Park. If you wish, decorate a rock yourself and hide it in the park. Please put on the back of the rock to post a picture on Facebook.

Birthday wishes this week to Tony Smith, Cindy Capnerhurst, Ellen Riddle, Callie Bradshaw, D. Brian Taylor, Destiny Risinger, Justin Langford, Kate Shealy, Casey Attaway, Ricky Smith Sr., Thomas Covington, Ashley Gaskins, Clyverd Price, Aaron Bryant Cline, Stella Ann Porter, Sam Woodyard, John Barnhill, Layne Sease, and Gail Provost.
