Senior nutrition program returns to county

The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program improves the diets of low-income seniors with fresh produce and supports small, local farmers. Low-income seniors 60 and older may buy unprocessed fruits and vegetables from authorized farmers’ markets, roadside stands and community-supported agriculture programs through October 15. Participants receive $25 in five checks of $5 to spend at authorized locations. Checks are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Vouchers will be issued at

• Tri-City Leisure Center, 485 Brooks Ave., West Columbia, June 11, 1 - 4 p.m.

• Swansea Senior Center, 197 Lawrence St., Swansea, June 13, 9 a.m. – noon

• Ball Park Road Gym Complex, 432 Ball Park Road, Lexington, June 12, 1 – 4 p.m.

• Batesburg-Leesville Senior Center, 241 Highland Ave., Batesburg, June 14, 9 a.m. – noon

• LCRAC Aging Admin. Building, 125 Parker St., Lexington, Call (803) 356-5111

Eligibility Process

1. Attend a distribution event

2. Complete the application

3. Provide proof of identity and residence in the county

4. Self-declare amount of household income

5. If eligible, participants receive the $25 benefit. Individuals wishing to apply for homebound seniors must provide a statement from the senior granting permission to submit an application.
