Seniors enjoyed Valentine party

Gilbert-Summit Senior Center members enjoyed an early Valentine’s Day last week. Their special day was arranged by Gilbert High School seniors who are in a C.R.E.W class. GHS teacher Tonya Price teaches a Creating Relationships Exploring Within class. Her C.R.E.W. students learn relationship building, academic progress monitoring and character development. One of their yearly requirements is to do a community service project. Last year in 2019 her C.R.E.W. students chose to give the GSSC members a Valentine’s Day party and this year her students decided to continue the project. “This is bridging the gap” she said and her students enjoy meeting GSSC members.

To make the Valentine’s Day party special, the students came early to decorate the center tables with red cloths and chocolate candy. Music from the 1940s and 50s was played and a table was set up with punch, sandwiches, chips, fruit, and desserts. Each GSSC member enjoyed the special Day and interacting with the GHS students.

GSSC crafters also made Valentine’s Day gifts for the Meals on Wheels recipients.

GSSC Director Donna Neel said the members are looking forward to their annual Mardi Gras party this week in Batesburg in conjunction with the 7 senior centers in Lexington County. Members will wear Mardi Gras attire and enjoy lunch, door prizes, and dancing. For information on joining GSSC, call 892-5745.

Participants will get free answers concerning family law issues on divorce, custody, visitation, support and more. The class will be led by Bryn C. Sarvis, ESQ. For information, call 785-5387.

Gilbert Middle School seeks donations for the Relay for Life event. GMS hopes to reach a goal of $1,000 in the next three months. The event will be held May 15. For information or to donate, call 821-1700.
