South Carolina’s annual Sales Tax Holiday begins tomorrow and lasts through Sunday.
The Sales Tax Holiday in South Carolina started in 2000. In past years, shoppers have been exempted from $2 to 3 million in taxes during the weekend, according to the SC Department of Revenue.
Due to the corona virus crisis, check with your local retailer to see if they offer online shopping, delivery, or curbside pick-up.
If you choose to shop instore, check to see if there is a mask ordinance, or other guidelines. Practice social distancing and other procedures recommended by the CDC and SCDHEC to help protect yourself and others from covid-19.
Tax-free items include:
• School supplies
• Clothing
• Computers, parts and accessories
• Printers
• Diapers
• Musical instruments for school
• Bedding and pillows
Items NOT exempt include:
• Bicycles
• Cell phones and smartphones
• Furniture
• Sports equipment
• Refrigerators
• Office supplies • Video game consoles
• Video game consoles
