Wellmore of Lexington recently welcomed 4 winners of the Silver Pen Scholarship competition for dinner and an awards ceremony.

The competition has been hosted by Wellmore’s parent company, The Maxwell Group, since 2012.

The Maxwell Group has awarded more than $184,000 to assist students with their college costs.

Members at Wellmore judge the competition.

“It’s a unique scholarship opportunity, as local students write essays on a chosen topic and our members get to read and judge the entries,” said Glenn Ferrere, the executive director. Our members love participating. It’s a great way to connect with our community.”

This year, the topic was “If you could live during any era, which era would it be? Describe what your life would look like. Living during your chosen era, how would politics and social issues of that time affect you? What would your life look like occupationally and socially?” Entries were to be 600 to 1,000 words.

The 4th Place winner was Laney Hayes, 3rd Place Ehitohan Iyile, 2nd Place Margaret Pearrow and 1st Place Katie Waites.

The competition is open to high school seniors who live or attend school within 25 miles of Wellmore.
