Do you remember playing on the monkey bars and spinning around on the hot metal merry go round in the summer? I do! We got rid of all that pent-up energy that accumulated from sitting still in school all day.

The monkeys would be proud of how we climbed on the bars and hung upside down from the top. The world’s fastest runners had competition when we ran around the merry go-round and jumped on just to see how fast it would go. Our parents were not so happy when one of us was thrown off and broke a bone or two. That hot slide on a summer’s day was a special treat! Kids with disabilities have trouble enjoying traditional playgrounds.

Saluda Shoals is having a groundbreaking for a universally inclusive play space on November 29, at 4 pm. This playground is for those for those have special needs and cannot enjoy a traditional playground. Once complete, this 2-acre area will provide opportunities for programs and play dates for children and adults with disabilities. A special fundraising event with proceeds from the Holiday Lights admission that evening will help funds for the project
