Splawn Rollins Davis of Swansea, SC, celebrated her 99th birthday, Tuesday, June 25, at Manning Place in Greer, SC, with all the residents and some of her relatives. Mrs. Davis graduated from Greer High School in 1937 as valedictorian. She taught school in Swansea for over 40 years. She started a library in a grocery store many, many years ago. She was a long-time volunteer of Meals on Wheels and the American Red Cross. When she was 85 years old, she was awarded the Order of the Silver Cresent by the Governor David Beasley. Mrs. Davis was very instrumental in working with government authorities in getting a library in Swansea, and she was chairman of the Lexington District #4 School Board for many years.
