AROUND CAYCE, SPRINGDALE & WEST COLUMBIA

Congrats to Ryan LoGuzzo. He is the first winner of the Town of Sprindale’s Palmetto Patriot’s Pickup. He collected nine bags of trash along 22 miles of Platt Springs Road, West Columbia. He collected the trash on July 4 -- all by himself.

PalmettoPride is committed to the eradication of litter and the promotion of beautification in South Carolina. PalmettoPride (a 501c3 non-profit) leads the effort to motivate and organize groups to clean up existing debris. The ultimate objective is changing behavior -- stopping litter at its source, which is the people who do it.

Cayce’s Southern Essence Distilling had its soft opening earlier this month. It’s Cayce’s newest microdistillery at 904 Frink St. At the opening, the operators of the business were cranking out small batches of rum, vodka, brandy and oak barrel-aged whiskey. To make their concoctions, Southern Essence Distilling incorporates fresh fruit and vegetable flavors from produce grown on-site. It’s another local business, so be sure to check it out. It needs your support.

Springdale Police Chief Kevin Cornett joined Lighthouse for Life last week as a guest speaker for a human trafficking seminar. Program planners said the “class went so well” and described his address as a “powerful and humble presentation.” Organizers also thanked Lexington County’s Fellowship Bible Church for hosting the seminar.
