This week’s Athlete of the Week winners came up big for their teams as they advanced through their holiday tournaments.

Both winners from this week’s Athlete of the Week poll helped elevate their team to victory during holiday hoops tournaments.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek.

Braylhan Thomas

Gray Collegiate’s Braylhan Thomas earned Athlete of the Week after putting up big numbers for the War Eagles in the Chick-fil-A Classic.

Thomas averaged 17.3 points for Gray during the tournament. He had the sixth-highest scoring average during the competition.

Gray went 1-2 during the tournament but had a fighting chance in every game. Thomas opened the tournament with an 11-point performance against Prolific Prep. He followed that up with a 22-point and eight-rebound performance in a win over Hillcrest Prep. He concluded the competition with 19 points and eight rebounds against Combine Academy.

Ja’Sia Booth

Ja’Sia Booth is this week’s girl’s Athlete of the Week after an impressive performance for Airport in the Y.C. Winborn showcase.

Booth was named Player of the Game after the team’s 60-53 win over Huss. Booth finished the game with 18 points.

Booth had solid performances in the team’s other two tournament wins. She had 16 points in a win over York and seven against Indian Land.

Her play has been important to Airport’s strong start this season. The team sits at 12-4 entering the week before region play begins.
