Friday – June 12

Lauren Jenkins (concert)
The Nashville Nights concert series, which brings fast-rising Music City talent to Lexington, rolls on at Steel Hands Brewing (2350 Foreman St. in Cayce). This week’s performer is country singer/songwriter Lauren Jenkins, who’s shared the stage with Lady A and LeAnn Rimes, among others. A local opener starts the show at 6 p.m., followed by a set from your host, Michael Haney. Jenkins performs until 9:30 p.m. Be sure to check out the brewery’s food specials, including the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich. This show is free to attend. The New Primitive (concert)
Bill’s Music Shop & Pickin’ Parlor (710 Meeting St. in West Columbia) hosts a performance by The New Primitive. The band, which tours between NC and SC frequently, plays a mix of classic bluegrass and country starting at 8 p.m. and running until 9 p.m. Admission is $15. Carter Lybrand (concert)
Fresh off his performance at the Lexington Peach Festival, singer/songwriter Carter Lybrand performs at Krafty Draft Brew Pub (269 Charter Oak Rd.). Letron Brantley & Friends (concert)
Saxophonist LeTron Brantley and Chayz Lounge (607 Meeting St. in West Columbia) invite you to “A Night of Soul Jazz Rhythms.” Singer Tracy Brathwaite joins Brantley for the evening, and you can expect to hear hits and classics by Ronnie Laws, Tevin Campbell, Natalie Cole, Etta James, Tevin Campbell, The Isley Brothers, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, and more. Native American Lifeways
Learn a little history on Saturday afternoon at 12,000 History Park (1120 Ft. Congaree Trl. in Cayce) as part of their Native American Lifeways walking tour. Native Americans played a strategic role in the economy and welfare of the Carolina Colony, and now you can walk the beautiful trails to learn more about their role here and how the historic resources of the park are relevant to the lives and culture of Native peoples today, including the Cherokees and Catawbas. Julyfest Gospel Concert (concert)
Chapin Town Hall (157 Columbia Ave.) brings some spirit into the Summer with the Julyfest Gospel Concert. The Sandlot

Historically Speaking
The Lexington Main Library (5440 Augusta Rd.) presents another edition of the “Historically Speaking” lecture series. This week’s spirited topic is the history of alcohol in Lexington County, both legal and otherwise. Thursday – July 18

Meeting Street Artisan Night Market
Interactive Arts Park (425 Meeting St. in West Columbia) hosts the Meeting Street Artisan Night Market. Shop in cooler weather, support local vendors, interact with the unique sculptures throughout the park, and then head to State and Meeting Streets, and Court Avenue to continue shopping and dining. Morning Yoga
The Columbia Museum of Art (1515 Main St.) invites you to Boyd Plaza on Friday, July 12 for a gentle Morning Yoga session. The session, taught by Andre Drummond, is for those who want to practice at a slower pace to support movement patterns, mindfulness and overall wellbeing. The class can be taken on a mat or sitting in a chair; both will be provided. Morning Yoga runs from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., and is free to attend, though registration is required. Friday Night Laser Lights
Bring the kids to the SC State Museum (301 Gervais St.) for Friday Night Laser Lights on Friday, July 12. Enjoy special shows featuring lasers choreographed to iconic music inside the museum’s 55ft digital dome BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Planetarium, including songs by Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, and The Beatles. Avery Davis Memorial Bass Tournament & Fishing Camp
Dreher Island State Park (3677 State Park Rd. in Prosperity) hosts a very special fishing event. The Memorial Bass Fishing Tournament: Hunting, Fishing & Loving AVERY Everyday tournament brings the joys of the outdoors and the fun of fishing to kids. In addition to a bass fishing tournament (with a $1000 1st prize award) there’s a free fish camp for kids. Aiken County Farmer’s Market
Head over to the Aiken County Farmer’s Market (115 Williamsburg Ct.) on Thursday, July 18 to pick out some of the best farm-fresh food around. Vendors sell fresh produce, baked goods, meat and honey along with handmade crafts, and goods are displayed on tables built by farmers and their families of Aiken County over 70 years ago. George Fetner & The Strays, EZ Shakes and TenMileRide (concert)
Local rockers George Fetner & The Strays headline an all-local-act night at New Brookland Tavern (632 Harden St.) on Thursday, July 18. Joining the eight-piece Southern rock juggernaut for this show are EZ Shakes and TenMileRide, both Columbia favorites, as well. Showtime is 7 p.m. and admission is $10.
