Friday – August 2

Chris Canterbury & Ben Danaher (concert)

The Nashville Nights concert series at Steel Hands Brewing (2350 Foreman St. in Cayce) rolls on with a performance from Chris Canterbury and Ben Danager. The duo plays their passionate country-tinged tunes after an opening set from a local act at 6 p.m. Singer/songwriter Michael Haney hosts the evening, and there will be food and drink specials, including Nashville Hot Chicken and Sweet Tea Ale. Brew At The Zoo

Riverbanks Zoo & Garden (500 Wildlife Pkwy.) hosts their annual Brew At The Zoo event. Experience an evening of craft and local beer, live music, and wildlife set against the stunning backdrop of Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. This event runs from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Admission is $75 for the general public and $65 for Riverbanks members. There are also VIP packages for $150 ($130 for members) that include 1-hour early access to Ndoki Plaza with a selection of exclusive beers and wines, catered light bites and an open liquor bar. Cinderella (musical)

The Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College (7300 College St.) and

the Chapin Theater Company present Rodgers & Hammerstein’s musical version of the classic fairytale, Cinderella. Adapted for the stage with warmth and humor, this romantic fairy tale is for children and adults alike. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. and tickets cost between $18 and $22. Flatland Express (concert)

Bill’s Music Shop & Pickin’ Parlor (710 Meeting St. in West Columbia) hosts a performance by SC’s own Flatland Express. The sextet plays classic and modern bluegrass starting at 8 p.m. and running until 9 p.m. Admission is a $10 donation. Visit billsmusicshop.com for more information.

 

Saturday – August 3

 

The Market at Icehouse

The Icehouse Amphitheater (107 W. Main St.) hosts The Market at Icehouse. The market is primarily intended as a farmer/grower and local artisan market that uses a friendly atmosphere to promote, support, and encourage local production, all while educating citizens on the benefits of eating fresh produce and supporting local artists. Civil War Tour

12,000 Year History Park (1120 Ft. Congaree Trl. in Cayce) hosts a walking Civil War tour. Learn about The Battle of Congaree Creek, which was the last fortified position defended by Confederate troops before the capture and destruction of Columbia. Walk the battlefield and visit the earthworks and learn about the strategies and tactics used by both sides as Sherman marched through South Carolina on his way to Columbia. Prettier Than Matt (concert)

Outdoor Movie Night

Savage Craft Ale Works (430 Center St. in West Columbia) hosts an Outdoor Movie Night. Every Monday until Sept. 2, Savage Craft shows a different film on their outdoor screen, with plenty of food and drink specials and picnic tables available. This weeks’ movie is the classic Rob Reiner-directed fairytale The Princess Bride. This event runs from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. and is free to attend. Wednesday – August 7

 

Tokyo Joe (concert)

One of Columbia’s most popular rock bands continues their Wednesday night residency at O’Hara’s Public House (131 E. Main St.). Thursday – August 8

 

Dick Goodwin’s Big Band Experience (concert)

Chayz Lounge (607 Meeting St. in West Columbia) fires up your Thursday night with a performance from Dick Goodwin’s Big Band Experience. The12-piece ensemble, including a full brass section and vocalist Kristi Kirk Hood, interpret timeless classics from iconic artists like The Beatles, Earth Wind & Fire, Chick Corea, Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick and more. Washed Out (concert)

Chillwave godfather Washed Out (aka Ernest Greene, Jr.) performs at The Senate (1022 Senate St.) on Friday, Aug. 2. Ridge Spring Farmer’s Market

Head over to Ridge Spring Plaza (100 Town Sq.) hosts the Ridge Spring Farmer’s Market on Saturday, Aug. 3. Support local farmers, get fresh produce as well as plants for freshening up your landscaping, and browse through local arts & crafts. This event is free to attend and runs from 8 a.m. to noon. Backyard Saturday

Bring the kids to Saluda Shoals Park (5605 Bush River Rd.) for their Backyard Saturday event. Enjoy multiple programs and activities that celebrate awareness of the natural world through fun activities and cool biofacts. This event is free to attend, but there is a $5 for parking. 803 Day

The historic Robert Mills House (1616 Blanding St.) hosts the first annual 803 Day on Saturday, Aug. 3. This festival is meant to celebrate the great things you can find in the 803 area code. Explore the gardens, play some games, and take in the rich history of the area. There will be live music, food, and plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy. This event runs from noon to 5 p.m. and is free to attend, but there is a VIP section with a covered tent area with tables & chairs, cooling fans, and private refreshments. First Sunday

The SC State Museum (301 Gervais St.) hosts their monthly First Sunday event on Sunday, Aug. 4. Bring the family for $1 admission apiece, which covers four floors of South Carolina art, cultural history, natural history and science/technology, including the Boeing Observatory and the Robert B. Arial Collection of Historical Astronomy located on the fourth floor. For an additional price, guests can enjoy a planetarium show and/or a 4D theater movie. Master Splinta (concert)

The New Brookland Tavern (632 Harden St.) dives into the local hip-hop scene with a performance from Master Splinta on Thursday, Aug. 8.
