Talking Points

Most of us would like to imagine our golden years will be filled with safety, financial security and relaxation. The 50 million Americans who are 65 and older today are hoping for the same. Older South Carolinians may not enjoy those securities. A recent study ranked SC 37th worst in the nation for aging citizens.Theseniorlist.com examined fraud victimization, violent deaths, living alone, median rental costs and poverty. Iowa was determined to be the best for senior citizens in the ranking. Ironically, Florida posed the greatest risk to seniors. It has some of the highest cases of fraud and high housing costs. The top 3 best states for seniors were Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. The worst 3 were Florida, New Mexico and Delaware. Find the study at https://www.theseniorlist.com/data/safest-states-seniors/ .
