Summer opens with gas prices tumbling

Here’s welcome news for most of us this summer.

The price of regular gas is headed for $2 a gallon.

Average gas prices have fallen for 5 straight weeks.

That means many of us will pay far less as we travel this summer.

Lexington County pump prices fell to $2.07 a gallon at one station on SC-6 south of I-20 this week.

Average prices for a gallon of regular hit its lowest in more than 2 months, price-tracking GasBuddy showed.

US oil production rose to a record 12.4 million barrels a day of crude oil with inventories at their highest point in nearly 2 years, according to the Energy Information Administration.

Prices in some parts of the US fell below $2.
