A proposed law will eliminate an unfair deduction of benefits to surviving service members’ spouses.
It applies to surviving spouses if their spouses die on active duty or as retirees who pass away due to a service-connected cause.
Congressman Joe Wilson of Springdale reported HR 553, the Military Surviving Spouses Equity Act, has reached over 250 bipartisan co-sponsors in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“Bipartisanship is often portrayed as something that can’t be achieved by Congress, but we are grateful to share some good news,” he said.
“Republicans and Democrats are coming together to put an end to the so-called Widow’s Tax. It is incredible... and we appreciate our colleagues joining us in support.”
