Teacher earns NG certification

Pelion Elementary’s Lauren W. McElveen recently earned her National Geographic Educator Certification. National Geographic offers this professional development free of charge to educators committed to inspiring the next generation of explorers, conservationists and change-makers. The program builds skills in generating interdisciplinary classroom activities centered around real-world problems on local, regional and global scales.

Pelion Library will host technology training July 26 at 10:30 am. Registration is required. Preschool story time will be July 26 at 11 am for ages 1-5 years. Join the library July 26 at 10:30 am for an interactive children’s concert performed by Irene Rose Smith. There will be singing, dancing, and moving together to songs. This event is for grades K-5.

Yarn Art will be July 27 at 10 am for ages 13 and up. Local farmer Catherine Porth from Grannies Grub Co-Op will provide produce to sell August 1. This event is part of the SC Plants the Seed program.

Happy birthday to Bobby Daggerhart, Betty Jeffcoat, and Dalton Olawsky.

The Pelion Senior Center will travel to Roses and Shealy’s in Batesburg July 26.

Austin Brooks Shumpert was the recipient of the Iris Garden Club scholarship. The American Red Cross scholarship was presented to Leia Noel Cogdill. Rhegan Sierra Durden was the recipient of the Lettie Pate Whitehead scholarship. The SC Baptist scholarship was awarded to Cheryl Lynn La-Due. Gabriel Michael Locklear and Tayler Brianna Murray were recipients of the South Carolina Grant. Makenzie Louise Renew was the recipient of the SC Palmetto Fellows scholarship and the Beta Club scholarship. Tayler Brianna Murray was awarded the Winthrop RaiseMe scholarship. The Jerry D and Suzette W. Craft scholarship was presented to Rhegan Sierra Durden. Austin Brooks Shumpert was presented with the Lexington Soil & Water Conservation scholarship. McKenna Jade Smith was the recipient of the Brewton-Parker College Volleyball scholarship, the Erskine College Flying Feet scholarship, and the Erskin College Tower’s scholarship.
