Thanksgiving 2018: What Chronicle readers are thankful for

Posted

We asked Chronicle readers for their feelings of gratitude this year. Here is what a few of them told us.

“As your Sheriff, I am thankful to work and live in a community that shows so much support for law enforcement and to be able to lead the dedicated men and women who serve our citizens. Personally, I am thankful for family and friends.”

Bryan “Jay” Koon

Lexington County Sheriff

“I’m eternally grateful to the good Lord for my 2 precious boys and wonderful husband who provide me with love, joy and affection all year long. They are my greatest blessings.”

Mackenzie Taylor

Lexington District 3

“I am thankful every day to be alive and surrounded by the great men and women of the Irmo Police Department. We truly have a wonderful group of dedicated individuals who want to help people and make our community a safe and enjoyable place to live. I am thankful for the kind expressions the community shares with us throughout the year.”

Capt. Courtney Dennis

Irmo Police Department

“I am thankful for all the blessings and opportunities God has given me, especially my thoughtful husband Benny and our crazy kitty Jethro. I am thankful for the ability to help in our community, love of our church family and the opportunity to teach others egg art.”

Kay Collings, Pelion

“I speak for the entire Lexington Police Department in saying that each of us are incredibly grateful for the Lexington community who daily show our officers how much they support the work we do. Sometimes it’s someone saying ‘I appreciate your service’ while out on a call or business visit. Other times someone will pick up the tab for a cup of coffee or drop off cards of appreciation or homemade treats for everyone to enjoy. It all highlights what a great community Lexington is.”

Terrence Green

Lexington Police Chief

“I am thankful for the founders of the City of Cayce and those who have loved it for generations or only a few days. Our City is a special place and I’m thankful to get to continue to help take care of it.”

Elise Partin

Mayor, City of Cayce

“I am grateful for my bride and family, friends, opportunities past/present/ future, benefits that others might receive from my efforts, and the good sense to be of advantage to all.”

Tom Ledbetter

Midlands Tech

“I am thankful for the normal things – family, friends and the times I can laugh and be me without having to be so serious about life. I appreciate the Lord’s love and patience with me, His strong-willed child. As one who struggled with infertility, I look with wonder at our 3 wonderful kids.

“I am thankful for the small things in life, enjoying the heat of a fireplace, running water and a washing machine that works. I am thankful for open doors of opportunity as well as those times where a trial became a stepping stone to grow and learn more about who I am and who the Lord is in my life.”

Liesha Huffstetler, Chapin

“This Thanksgiving, I am grateful for my exceptional husband, loving children, work, best friends and all those who helped make my dreams come true.”

Melba Allard, Columbia

“As an entrepreneur, wife, and mother of five daughters in a blended home, I am most thankful for grace and community. Whether it’s on our way to contribute to the workforce, in the car line for school pick up, or at the grocery store, I ask you to spread grace. I have found that this along with a supportive community is key to a happy, busy life.”

Linsie Pritchard, Lexington

“I’m grateful for the tremendous opportunity to teach and learn at Columbia International University School of Business. Our amazing students work diligently each day to impact the marketplace, our state, and the world with the message of Christ. They are a daily blessing to me as they are to the many whose life they change.”

Scott Adams, Lexington

“I am thankful for a loving family and great friends.

“I am also thankful for my best friend, my grandpa, Chuck McCurry, who goes on unforgettable adventures with me and for Chronicle editors who gave me the opportunity to write for this newspaper.”

Cole Stilwell, Lexington

“Though this will be the first holiday season without my grandpa, I’m thankful to have had him to guide me through difficult times. It will be a test for my family, but if Rodger Dale Broadway instilled anything in the people he loved, it was the capacity to cherish the way others have touched our lives and the memories we have of them.”
Rob Cottingham, Columbia
“I am thankful for the 1990 car accident that put me in the hospital for a week, gave me amnesia for a month, and caused seizures for a year. It brought me my wife who I will have all my life. I thank God for the year of tragedy that brought me a life of joy.”
