Outdoor sports are back and Marie Bridges reports on a post-covid tennis reunion: These fantastic ladies have played together over 2 decades at Topspin Racquet & Swim Club in Lexington. Gathering April 12 were Whitney Brown, Alli Sairan, Kay Gossett, Debbie Donovan, Linda Till McDonald, Frances Young, Becky Hipp, Cheryl Orr, Teresa Rhodes, Shelly Linder, Serena Eason, Beth Nettles, Johnette Jones, Peggy Moseley, Susan Walters, Sally Donaldson, Ann Wingate, Nancy Fuller, Linda Sims, Carol Ann Lees, Cindy Ouzts, Erika Mays, Brenda Maciaszek and, Marie Bridges

ANNE BULL sent us Katy Clark Lever’s personal account of what she saw at the Masters Golf Tournament last week.

Katy’s husband Stephen and other Palmetto Propane, Fuels, and Ice employees provide ice for the tournament’s concessions. Katy joined them as a volunteer.

Being able to work behind the scenes she saw what the grounds keepers, security and camera crews did was absolutely amazing.

She loved seeing Amen Corner, the golfers up close and what it takes to put the event on for spectators and TV audiences.

THE LEXINGTON Chamber’s Spring Golf Tournament is May 17, at Lexington Country Club. Teams and hole/tee sponsorships available. Call 803-359-6113 for information.

The Chamber’s April 13 Business Over Breakfast was catered by John Aun’s Eggs Up Grill and sponsored by Mid-Carolina Electric Co-op. Ryan Kirkland, Executive Pastor-Radius Church, gave the invocation.

President Angelle La Borde introduced speakers Charles Caughman, broker/owner of Weichart and Taylor Oxendivi, Government Affairs Director of the Central Carolina Realtors Association. They spoke on Midlands real estate trends.

Angela Klosterman, Chamber Chair, presided. Elected officials present were Rep. Paula Rawl Calhoon and Town Councilman Todd Carnes. Byron Thomas represented Congressman Joe Wilson.

Chamber Award recipients noted were:

• Mike Till Impact Award - former Chamber Chairwoman Nancy Hutto

• Small Business of the Year Award – Thompson Funeral Home

• Large Business of the Year Tidewater Boats

• Young Professional of the Year – Oneal Staples of Ameris Bank

• Ambassador of the Year is Amy Devore Walden of the Babcock Center and Ambassador of the Month is Whitnei Jeffcoat, American Cancer Society.

The Doris Burkett Scholarship recipient will be identified soon.

Todd Carnes will speak May 11.

LINDA SMITH REPORTS that the Lexington Woman’s Club Yard of the Season was presented to Bill and Donna Jerman of Yachting Road. The Jermans designed a special garden in memory of their daughter-in-law, Dana Corley. Dana’s Garden keeps her spirit alive in their hearts.

LINDA GRIFFITH sends these notes from the Post 7 meeting Saturday, April 10:

American Legion Vice Commander, John Testruth said a small crowd attended the 1st meeting in nearly a year. Committees reported Boys and Girls State need sponsors. Post 7 will sponsor 2 Legion Baseball teams. To make donations or buy raffle tickets call Linda at 803-587-9876.

Auxiliary President Dot Tunstall reported they sewed neck, arm, wheelchair cushions, hand squeezies and 1,200 masks for the Tucker Center and VA Hospital.

MISSION LEXINGTON announced:

• NewSpring Church has been named Church of the Month for its financial contributions and food pantry donations.

NewSpring’s campus pastor Chris Allen has served on the board since 2019.

• Volunteer of the Month Joe Mancinelliee has served in the food pantry. His time with the Peace Corps in Paraguay gives him a different perspective on mission work.

• Ambassador of the Month Troy Fite organizes food drives with his workout group and Zion Lutheran Church.
