Update your old iPhone

Do you have or use old Apple devices? If you have an iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 plus, iPad Air, iPad Mini 2, iPad Mini 3, or iPod Touch (6th generation) you need to do a software update ASAP.

These devices were ‘obsolete’ until the update this month. They were obsolete in that they had not received updates since iOS 12.

Why update now? You need to install operating system version 12.5.4. This version patches 3 dangerous security flaws.

The flaws can cause memory corruption and arbitrary code execution, resulting in malware installation and other issues.

To update your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings then tap General.

Choose Software Update and tap Download & Install if the update is available.

To update your iPod Touch, plug it into power and connect to WiFi. Open Settings, then General, and then Software Update. Tap Download and Install. If you get a message about temporarily removing apps to install the update, tap ‘Continue’ to install or ‘Cancel.’

To update now, tap Install. If you pick ‘Later’ you can choose ‘Install Tonight’ which means it will install the update overnight as long as the device is plugged into power. If you pick ‘Remind Me Later’ it will prompt you to install the update later.
