Veteran receives dignified burial

Posted

An unclaimed veteran was laid to rest with military honors Wednesday.

John Steven Stuebinger Jr., 53, was buried at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia.

Stuebinger served in the U.S. Army from 1984-1987. He passed away Nov. 2 in Florence County.

The funeral procession left from the Caughman-Harman Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. It was escorted by the Patriot Guard Riders, Lexington County Sheriff’s Office and Richland County Sheriff’s Office.

The burial was sponsored by Caughman-Harman, Dunbar Funeral Homes and Dignity Memorial’s Homeless Veterans Burial Program.

“The Dignity Memorial Homeless Veterans Burial Program is a cooperative effort designed to ensure that veterans who are homeless, indigent, and have no family receive the honors in death that their service in life merited,” said William Lynch of Dignity Memorial.

“We’re honored to assist in giving Mr. Stuebinger the dignified military services he deserves.”
