Imagine what it might be like to die unheralded and alone.

That was a sad end of life for US Army veteran PFC John J. Schaedel and Air Force veteran AMN Bernie B. Brewer

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher’s staff helped arrange a funeral service for the unclaimedveterans who died in Lexington County.

Their cremated remains were to be escorted by American Legion Riders and the Patriot Guard Riders from the Chapin American Legion Post to Fort Jackson National Cemetery.

The Lexington County Coroner’s staff found that the two veterans either had no living relatives or their relatives were unable to provide funeral services.

Fisher said she considered it a great honor to ensure that the veterans receive the posthumous respect earned through their service and sacrifice to our nation.
