Lexington County Public Library wants the community to spread kindness during November. The library is offering a series of activities encouraging local residents to be kind to others, themselves, animals and to the earth.

Amber Conger, the library’s deputy director of operations, said, “We want to show our community that in spite of the stress and uncertainty in our lives right now, we can all be a light for others and be forces for good. The best way to lift our spirits is to do something kind for someone else. We hope that others will join us to focus on growing our minds, our homes and our communities to become kinder and more positive places.”

The library will offer these in-person kindnesscentered activities in November:

• All library branches will hostcollection drives for homemade cards for sick patients who are isolated in healthcare facilities. People of all ages are encouraged to create and donate cards which will be delivered to Lexington Medical Center and local nursing homes. Blank cards are available to decorate, while supplies last.

• All branches are offering free Kindness Challenge calendars for the month of November, which provide a different act of kindness to complete for each day of the month.

• The Batesburg-Leesville and Chapin Branch Libraries are offering Take & Make activities.

• The Pelion, Gilbert-Summit and Chapin Branch Libraries are hosting food drives for local food banks.

Online at lexcolibrary. com, virtual programs will be available throughout the month including:

• How to create sleep mats for people experiencing homelessness

• Making homemade pet treats and toys to donate to local animal shelters

• Building birdhouses • Healthy holiday meal tips • Chair yoga • Creating kindness rocks

• Children’s storytimes teaching kindness through books, rhymes, and songs

• A special message from library staff in celebration of World Kindness Day on November 13
