Voter turnout was robust

Before 7 am Tuesday, long lines were forming at 2 polling sites in West Columbia. Before the sun came up, voters were assembling at Providence Presbyterian Church on Hummingbird Drive and at Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Sunset Boulevard.

The polls were open until 7 pm. Aside from a presidential race, where President Donald Trump resoundingly defeated Joe Biden in Lexington County, Sen. Lindsey Graham easily beat Jamie Harrison who reportedly spent $109 million on advertising.

US Rep. Joe Wilson was challenged by Adair Buroughs but won by a wide margin.

Airport High senior Caleb Huggins said he will bowl at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, NC, during a ceremony at the school Friday. The signing ceremony was attended by family, teachers staff, Belmont Abbey bowling coach Richard Gucwa and sophomore bowler Bryce Catahan.

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the City of West Columbia by the Government Fi nance Officers Association\ for its comprehensive annual financial report for the 29th consecutive year.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting and its attainment represent a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

Mayor Tem Miles said, “We are proud to receive the GFOA nationally recognized financial reporting award for the 29th consecutive year.

“The repeated designation is evidence of the excellent management of our financial affairs by city management and staff.”
