We’re having a heat wave

You think summer has arrived? The calendar says June 20 but the heat says differently.

People everywhere enjoy the outdoors. How about children running through yard sprinklers and splashing in pools?

Best of all, for children school’s out!

Dads fire up grills for the best hamburgers with trimmings.

Ever picnicked in the park with bug repellant in the basket?

Fresh produce stands with luscious watermelons and cantaloupes. The new Lexington town market offers pride of the growers, showcasing Lexington County homegrown tomatoes.

Vegetable gardens and colorful crepe myrtles and hydrangeas delight their caregiver. Bird enthusiasts watch their feeders for their favorite species. Hummingbirds are attracted to the color red and sugar water.

Walks on the beach, the dam and neighborhoods add to the seasonal activity along with vacations and water recreation.

Remember rockers on front porches for Sunday family visitors? It’s the perfect time of year to get out. Breathe fresh air. Grab an ice cream cone and savor the flavor.

YOUR LEXINGTON Chamber of Commerce held its monthly meeting June 8. After breakfast prepared by Eggs Up Grill’s John Aun, Ted McGee gave the invocation. Sponsor was Colonial Life represented by Agency Development Manager Craig Caldwell.

Angela Klosterman, Chamber Chair and CEO Angelle LaBorde led the meeting. Congressman Joe Wilson and State Rep. Paula Rawl Calhoun were there.

Guest speaker Billy Chastain of Dominion Energy gave a program on the Dreher Shoals Dam at Lake Murray history.

Ambassador of the Month was Lee Snell of James R. Snell, Jr. Law Office.

Kirk Litton of Midlands Media Group and David Hayth of LM Lifestyle Magazine showed a video of Lexpo Thursday, June 24, at River Bluff High. Lexpo Exhibitor registration is open. There is no excuse for you not to attend Vendor to vendor networking is 10 – 11 am. Doors open at 11 am until 2 pm. Tables are $310 for shareholders and $410 for non-shareholders.

ANNE BULL reports: Life is resuming normalcy in this post covid era. The Lexington Cotillion held a spring social, the 1st in 2 years, June 3 at the Corley Mill House on 221 Corley Mill Road. Leslie and Alan Green organized the event. Alan will continue to serve as president through 2021.

HAPPY FATHER’S Day to all the Dads and congratulations to all high school and college graduates!

AJ Dooley celebrated his 91st birthday June 10. His wish was for all his loving family to visit with a “Happy Birthday”!
