Through working together, Westside Baptist can do more for people in need than they can acting alone.

The church is partnering with God’s Helping Hands, a Christian cooperative supported by donations from churches in Cayce and West Columbia.

God’s Helping Hands focuses on the elderly and disabled living in poverty, the working poor and residents experiencing an immediate crisis.

They serve as a food bank, clothes closet and provide some limited financial assistance for utilities, rent and prescriptions.

God’s Helping Hands board member Amelia Price is also a member of West-side Baptist.

Mary Puryear tells me that the church often partners with charitable groups to help those in need.

She said they always need food and the church believes in their mission.

“We believe that God not only wants us to love but to care for others,” she said. “We feel called to serve and work together with our neighboring charitable organizations.”

Saturday, June 16, at 6 p.m., Westside will host an event featuring comedian Paul May and a food drive to collect canned goods for God’s Helping Hands.

Paul May has entertained audiences for years through his Clear Vision Drama Company. His humor is clean and hilarious. It should be a fun filled evening and beneficial to many in need of food.
