Deputy injured in collision

South Lake Drive in Lexington was closed Saturday between Two Notch Road and Community Drive due to a vehicle collision.

Michael Jordan Nichols, 36, hit Lexington County Deputy Roy Hall, who was driving down South Lake Drive near Paps Drive around 5:55 am.

Nichols has been charged with felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury.

Gilbert man charged with murder

Lexington County deputies have charged a Gilbert man with murder in the death of his grandmother.

Dustin Edward Hoff, 30, will also be charged with ill treatment of an animal after deputies found a dog stabbed to death inside the victim’s home on Neely Wingard Road, according to arrest warrants.

The victim Elaine Hall, 77, died from multiple sharp force injuries to the chest, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher. Hall also sustained multiple blunt force injuries due to having been beaten.

Hoff is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center.

Shooting in Lexington

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a shooting that occurred last Thursday morning.

According to deputies, shots were fired into a home on Vonda Drive in Lexington.

Investigators believe the shots came from the road.

There were 4 people inside the house at the time of the shooting, including 2 children. None were injured.

Santee man gets 17 years

An Orangeburg County man was sentenced last week to 17 years in prison for assaulting a Lexington County woman.

Lemont Michael B. Smith, 27, of Santee, pled guilty to assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and attempted armed robbery of a 66-year-old woman in Lexington County.

Under SC Law, these charges are classified as “no parole” offenses.
