West Columbia broke ground for its Interactive Art Park Nov. 27. “We’re bridging the past, present and future,” said Mayor Bobby Horton. The park will blend interactive art, landscaping and parking, at 435 Meeting Street behind Terra’s restaurant. Tem Miles, West Columbia Mayor Pro-Tem, said the park will connect the large new Savage Craft Ale Works brewery coming to Center Street with State Street restaurants and retailers. The park is scheduled to open in April. Scott Slatton of the Municipal Association of South Carolina said the park is a feature that will make West Columbia a greater city. The MASC contributed a $25,000 grant for the park. State Sen. Nikki Setzler, Rep. Micah Caskey and members of West Columbia City Council were present at the groundbreaking. The park is billed as one-of-a-kind that will feature musical events, art displays, artists booths and a farmer’s market. It offers parking spaces for the area’s restaurants and Riverwalk.
