Holiday Parade of Lights Saturday evening

The Greater Cayce-West Columbia Holiday Parade of Lights has been rescheduled for Saturday, Dec. 15 at 5:30 pm due to unfavorable weather conditions.

It’s the only local after-dark parade.

Steve Cohen, president of the Greater Cayce-West Columbia Board, wants to remind everyone, “The parade begins in Cayce, not West Columbia,” he said.

“This year, the route will begin in front of the Cayce Municipal Complex at 1800 12th Street. It ends in West Columbia.”

Cohen also said the parade is one of the most popular events of the Christmas season. Registration is limited to 100 entrants, but some participants include 3 or more vehicles, so the parade has lots to see.

West Columbia City Council and some of the city’s departments will be featured.

“We are used to seeing the streets lined with people,” said Cohen. “It’s a highly festive event that has become a staple of the holiday season. The lights at night are a sight to see.”

He advised spectators to come early Saturday and be sure to get a spot. Large groups of people and tailgating are common along the parade route.

West Columbia’s Tree Lighting ceremony and the Parade of Lights are must-see events. They have become warm traditions as a part of this special time of year.
