Irmo honored for men’s baseball

A higher education data firm, College Factual, has named Irmo one of the best cities in the nation for Men’s Baseball. One can view the report on collegefactual.com . Congratulations Irmo!

The Chapin Ruritan Club is taking orders now for delicious Vidalia onions to be delivered May 16. A 10-pound bag is just $10; a 25-pound bag $20; or a 50-pound bag $35. Give Cancer the Boot will be May 3 at Crooked Creek Park, 6-11 pm. There will be s’mores, plant sales and family activities.

Snakes are those creepy crawly slithery creatures that can cause quite a fright. We saw two on the banks of Bear Creek this weekend, a harmless black racer; the other was a water moccasin. If you want to learn more about snakes, local expert Brandon Eargle will be at Saluda Shoals April 10, 10-3 pm, to teach us about SC snakes.

The Summer Job Fair at the Irmo Library will be April 11, 5-8 pm. Call 803-798-7880 for more information.

Crooked Creek will

have a spring market sale April 13, 8:30 am- 2:30 pm. Many artists with paintings, pottery, candles, soaps, handcrafted jewelry, birdhouses, essential oils, books, clothing, baked goods and more will be for sale. Info: 345-6181.

Crooked Creek Art League announced the winners of the 2019 Juried Show. Congratulations to Ann Sweeney for her painting “Somewhere in Sudan.” The Peoples Choice Award went to Sonya Daimler’s “Beach Solace.” The winners’ art will hang in the park’s foyer through April 22.

Learn about Dutch Fork history while eating Shealy’s BBQ the Dutch Fork Genealogical Society annual reunion. It will be April 27, 9 am, at St. Jacobs Lutheran Church on Columbia Avenue. Cost is $18 for pre-registration or $20 at the door. Speakers are Vernon Tanner and Michael Iron Horse Matthews. They will speak of the influence of Native Americans on the settlers.
