Lady Eagles focused on winning region title

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL JUSTIN HALL

Airport Lady Eagles’ softball is entering its 3rd year under head coach Anna Parker.

The Eagles come into the 2019 season with a relatively young team.

“We’re really going to rely on the three or four veterans we have to step up,” Parker said. “They’ll need to be leaders for us both on and off the field this season.

“Hannah Fisher is our returning pitcher and senior who will be a huge asset to our team,” Parker continued.

Fisher’s battery mate will be junior Angell Weaver, while junior Caliegh Corbitt and senior Hannah Stone return to the outfield for the Lady Eagles.

“All four are players who will contribute greatly both in the field and at the plate,” she said.

With this being her 3rd season at the helm of the varsity squad, Parker is a graduate of both the school and the softball program. Typically, that common thread is found in a lot of high schools around the Midlands.

“As an alum, and a teacher here, I have a lot of pride in this school,” Parker stated. “And that pride carries over to the ball field as well.”

The expectations for any team are to win more games than you lose, minimize the mistakes, and control the controllables. But for Parker and the Lady Eagles softball team, the expectations are to make “a deep run in the state playoffs.”

“We want to finish in the top of our region,” Parker said.

After an 0-2 start in Region 4-4A play, the Lady Eagles have won 2 straight entering Tuesday’s matchup against archrival Brookland-Cayce.
