Two Lexington High School sports stars claimed this week’s Athlete of the Week honors after putting on a masterclass for their team. 

One athlete showed up at the most crucial time and guided their team to postseason wins. The other is just beginning, but their play has the Wildcats off to a solid start this season.

Kaleb Evans

Basketball star Kaleb Evans was named Athlete of the Week after he helped Lexington qualify for its first state championship appearance since 2012. 

The Wildcats have not won the big game in 24 years. Evans’ play in the team’s third and fourth-round games has the team one game away from ending that drought.

Evans scored 14 points in Lexington’s 57-37 win over Sumter in round three. He then scored 13 in the lower state championship against Summerville. Both efforts were team-highs for the game. 

The junior has been a key piece of Lexington’s success this season. He serves as the team’s primary ball handler, initiating a majority of the halfcourt offense. Another strong performance in the championship game Saturday, would be a big boost for the Wildcats.

Adriana Dunat

Lexington soccer star Adriana Dunat earned Athlete of the Week after helping her team jump out to a 5-1 start this season. 

Dunat is the team’s leader in points through four games, having scored 11 points. She has three goals and five assists so far this season. 

The sophomore has recorded at least one goal and one assist in three of those four games. She scored a goal and an assist against Carolina Forest last week, just one day after a one-goal two-assist game against Gilbert.

Dunat will have the chance to carry that momentum into this week on Friday when the Wildcats host Fort Mill.
