Local softball, soccer players earn Athlete of the Week honors

Posted

This round of Athlete of the Week winners are excelling on the field for their teams in the early goings of their seasons.

Clutch plays and scoring were on display this week with these athletes. Their effort gave their teams a victory and improved positioning early in the season.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek.

Jordan Aguirre Santos

Brookland-Cayce soccer star Jordan Aguirre Santos had a strong showing last week for the Bearcats.

Aguirre Santos scored two goals in the team’s 9-0 win over Lower Richland last Friday. He helped put a goal on the board in the team’s 3-2 loss over A.C. Flora as well, registering an assist.

The sophomore’s performance helped Brookland-Cayce improve to 2-0 in their region. Aguirre Santos will look to continue his impressive play this week as Brookland-Cayce looks to improve its record. The team sits at 5-6 entering this week but 2-0 in its region.

The Bearcats will play two games this week, including a contest against region rival Dreher.

Robyn Craig

Lexington softball’s Robyn Craig earned Athlete of the Week after connecting on a pitch for a walk-off hit against North Augusta last week.

Craig hit .500 during the game going 2-4, with a run and the game-winning RBI. Her hit in the seventh inning gave Lexington a 5-4 victory.

She has been a pivotal piece in the lineup this season for the Wildcats. The team has three games scheduled this week, giving Craig plenty of opportunities to continue her impressive start.
