Gilbert man dies in motorcycle accident

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the Gilbert man who died Wednesday night in a motorcycle accident.

Steven E. Spires Sr., 55, was operating a motorcycle traveling westbound on Peach Festival Rd. near Waters Ferry Rd. when he approached slower traffic and spilled from his motorcycle, according to Fisher.

Spires, who was not wearing a helmet, did not collide with any other vehicle. He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later due to his injuries.

The incident is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Falling tree kills woman on I-20

A Columbia woman died on Interstate 20 last Thursday when a tree fell on her vehicle.

Pamela Adams Powell, 49, was traveling on I-20 Westbound in slow traffic when a tree fell on her car, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.

Powell was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later due to her injuries.

2 dead in I-26 collision

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the 2 individuals who died in a collision on Interstate 26 Thursday afternoon.

James G. Hoff, 78, and Terri Lee Hoff, 75, both of Fenton, Missouri, were pronounced dead at the scene due to multiple traumatic injuries.

Their vehicle, driven by Mr. Hoff, struck the rear of a box truck that was stopped due to traffic near exit 119 westbound. Both individuals were wearing seat belts when the collision occurred.

The driver of the box truck was not injured.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

Gaston man dies in collision

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died in a motor vehicle collision on Valentine’s Day.

Barron Lorel Adams, 19, of Gaston, was traveling southbound when his vehicle left the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole on US 321 near Wood-trail Drive in Gaston.

Adams was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries.

He was not wearing a seat belt when the accident occurred.

The incident is being investigated by the Gaston Police Department.

Man sentenced in daughter’s death

David Lance Steadman, 27, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison without parole for his role in the 2017 death of his 4-year-old daughter, Lilly Lopez.

Circuit Court Judge Eugene C. Griffith, Jr. imposed the sentence following Steadman’s trial this week in Lexington County on the homicide by child abuse charge.

On July 31, 2017, the Lexington County first responders found Lilly unresponsive on the living room floor of Steadman’s home on Nazareth Road. She was pronounced dead after arrival at the Lexington Medical Center.

The law enforcement investigation by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department determined evidence of child abuse and neglect.

Another person has also been charged in the case.

Steadman is being transferred to the SC Department of Corrections to begin immediate service of his sentence.

Columbia woman dies on I-26

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died as a result of a motor vehicle collision on Interstate 26 eastbound near exit 113 Sunday.

Jamee Green, 24, of Columbia was pronounced dead at the scene due to her injuries.

Green struck the rear of a tractor trailer, and her disabled vehicle was struck by another semi. The drivers and a passenger of one of the semis were not injured.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
