When the Public service Commission meets today, seating will be limited

Dominion Energy and SCANA have requested 50 of the 118 seats for their attorneys and staff.

The public will have 25 seats, according to PSC Administrator Jocelyn Boyd.

Today is the day the PSC will hear arguments on rolling back SCE&G power rates and Dominion Energy’s proposal to buy SCE&G owner SCANA Corp.

Boyd said seats for the public will be available on a first-come basis for the 10 a.m. Thursday meeting at PSC offices in the Synergy Business Park, 101 Executive Center Drive, Suite 100, off Berryhill Road near I-20.

SCE&G critic Doris Fletcher of West Columbia said she would be there at least 2 hours early.

Tom Clements, whose Friends of the Earth are suing SCE&G, said the PSC “did little to find a larger venue, despite my expressions of concern.

“The PSC hearing officer looked at me when I expressed concern and said that the public can watch the proceedings being live streamed, where ever they could find it.

“There will be no special room at the PSC for such live streaming.

“Unfortunately, it’s looking like they are demonstrating that they are not the Public Service Commission but rather the SCE&G Service Commission.”
