Twitter bans political ads

Lexington County politicians may not use Twitter a lot to get out the vote. But the social media platform won’t be an option after Friday, Nov. 22. By banning political advertising, Twitter hopes this will end any involvement with the spread of potentially false and misleading information online. Lawmakers criticized Facebook for the way it handles political advertising. CEO Jack Dorsey said Twitter will make exceptions for ads in support of voter registration. Political advertising is a tiny part of Twitter’s sales. Twitter hit $2.11 billion in ad revenue so far this year.
