Two-way contributors earn Athlete of the Week after guiding teams to victory

Posted

This week’s Athlete of the Week winners helped their team clinch key wins over region opponents thanks to their contributions on both ends of the court.

With the season nearing its conclusion, these athletes stepped up during a time in which every win helps their team’s playoff odds.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek.

Hilton Dessausure

Northside Christian’s Hilton Dessausure won Athlete of the Week honors after guiding his team to a crucial win over Palmetto Christian Academy.

Dessausure scored 23 points and added five rebounds, an assist and a block. He played an efficient game shooting above 50% from the floor and above 70% on two-point shots.

The Crusaders entered the week on a seven-game winning streak, and Dessausure’s play has been a contributing factor to success. The junior has scored double-figures in six of the seven wins during the streak.

Northside has five games left this season, three of them in region. The team is 3-0 against conference foes and is closing in on its second-ever region title.

Keke Wright

Keke Wright came up big in a needed victory for Chapin over River Bluff last week.

Wright’s contributions on both ends of the court helped the Eagles claim a 44-36 win over the Gators. She recorded 12 points and five steals during the contest.

The win over River Bluff was Wright’s second double-digit scoring effort this season and her third game with five steals.

Chapin lost to Lexington at the end of last week, but the win against River Bluff meant the team stayed in third place, still had a shot at claiming the region championship and a chance at qualifying for the playoffs.
