Weather’s just right to exercise

Around ChApin & irmo

Cooler temperatures are perfect for hiking and enjoying the fall leaves! My family and I went to Table Rock and hiked for 4 hours. It was harder than I realized. My legs and knees didn’t like me much on the way down. Next year I plan on preparing by wearing a backpack and exercising on the stair climber for at least an hour a week. If you are a bit out of shape, the exercise programs at our Irmo Chapin Recreation centers are calling your name! They offer classes, walking trails and more. Call 803-772-1228 for more information.

There are many seasonal activities this time of year, including lights at The Riverbanks Zoo and Saluda Shoals. Crooked Creek Park will have Santa and his elves hiding candy canes for kids to find on the trails. Children are to bring a basket and a new unwrapped toy to donate.

Chapin’s First Christmas Tree Contest will last through Dec 20. The winner will receive a $50 gift card. If your business is interested, email marymac@generations of chapin.com

Dutch Fork Choral

Society presents A Winter Hope Christmas with voices and strings Dec. 12, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. It’s free. Call Jim Buck, 803-318-0488, for information.

Do you think speed limits on the lake would make our lake safer? Would you approve mandatory boat training for all boat owners? Help make our lake safer by filling out a survey at safethelake.com. This newly formed group also has safety boating tips and more on the website.

Congratulations to the Chapin Cheer team, The Lady Eagles won the Class 5A competition at the Colonial Life Arena. Dutch Fork came in 5th place, Good job!

Irmo’s Arbor Day Committee is returning in January to enhance the Irmo area. If you’d like to be a part of this committee, call Irmo Town Hall at 803-781-7050 and ask for Whit Cline.
