$25K raised to fight human trafficking

Posted

On October 6, Lighthouse for Life held a unique fundraiser at Saluda Shoals Park.

Supporters and volunteers came out to hear about how the organization is battling sex trafficking in the Midlands and nationwide.

LFL is a non-profit dedicated to combating human trafficking through education programs, community awareness events and victim support services.

The event raised $25,000 to continue their efforts to identify and prosecute sex traffickers and to help victims recover.

A private recovery house gives victims a place to stay, get encouragement, counseling and love from committed staff and volunteers.

Human trafficking is the 2nd-largest criminal criminal enterprise in the world with 40 million victims.

Although most are women and girls, males are also affected. The problem is getting worse even in Lexington County.

At the event at Saluda Shoals, the supporters, guests and volunteers were treated to Salsaritas Mexican food and an ole fashioned “Drive-In Theater” experience.

Guests stayed in their cars to watch a 30 minute video on an inflatable screen.

The video gave updates on what is going on in our community and what’s happening at LFL.

The crowd included families like Amanda and Paul Sadler and their 2 children.

Amanda has known Jen Thompson, CEO of LFL for 5 years and has been to 3 other events this year.

Amanda said kids should learn early about the dangers of human trafficking.
