Sybil Jarrells has been honored for the 2nd time with the President’s Gold Volunteer Service Award.
A letter from President Trump accompanied an Olympic style Gold Medal and a certificate to honor the West Columbia resident for her mission service.
The letter reads in part, “You have served as a model of the American spirit. Your many hours of service have strengthened the bonds of cooperation and trust that bring people together.”
The letter was signed “Donald Trump”.
Sybil’s husband Ralph Jarrells also received a Gold Medal.
They have worked with orphans in Uganda in Africa and children in the poorest parts of Belize in Latin America.
The Jarrells, with the help of the Lexington County Blowfish team and the West Metro Rotary Club, have raised thousands of dollars worth of baseball equipment for boys and girls teams in Belize.
“The smiles on the faces of the children we work with are our real awards,” Sybil stated.
“Recognition from President Donald Trump is a high honor that we greatly appreciate. However, being able to help the little ones is our blessing.
“After all, our Lord is quoted as saying, ‘Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these, my brethren, ye have done it unto me.’
“We have taken our commission from James 1:27.
“Pure religion is to care for the orphans.”
