The City of West Columbia invited the public to the Test Run on the corner of State and Center Streets.

“Come out to see participants test their creations and get ready for the Kinetic Sculpture Parade and Soap Box Derby races during the 2nd annual Kinetic Derby Day,” stated a press release from the city.

Kinetic Derby Day begins at 11 am April 27 on State and Meeting streets, West Columbia. For more information on Kinetic Derby Day, visit www.kineticderbyday.com .

Spring has sprung in Springdale, and last Saturday many families and children enjoyed the town’s park.

Springdale held its annual Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the Town and Platt Springs United Methodist Church. The event included refreshments, games, a bounce house, the Easter Bunny, and eggs.

The BBQ to benefit the Cindy Roof Wilkerson Foundation was held April 5. Spring-dale Mayor Michael said it was “a great success.” In memory of the former Springdale Elementary PE teacher, who passed away in 2012 from cancer, the foundation focuses on encouraging exercise and healthy nutrition for all ages as an integral part of community culture.

The family of John “Runt” and Carolyn Hook were presented with a resolution announcing the dedication of a park bench in Felton C. Benton Park honoring their memory and dedication to Community Service during the April 2 Springdale Town Council Meeting. The Town of Springdale extends its deepest gratitude for their contributions to the quality of life in the town.

The Public Works department will began construction of a new collaborative gardening project at Springdale Elementary School during the week of April 15. The elementary school children were scheduled to participate in planting the garden, which will coincide with their science curriculum and Arbor Day/Earth Day activities.
