Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!   Students everywhere, public, private, and homeschoolers, have started school! No more sleeping late and the homework adventure begins! I hope every teacher and student has a wonderful year!

What was daily life like in the old days? What did the ladies use to make themselves beautiful? What clothes were in fashion? Liesha Huffstetler, will be the speaker at the Dutch Fork Historical Society on August 26 at 6 pm at the Chapin Library.  Everyone is invited to travel back in time and see what the old days were really like!

The  Irmo and Chapin communities are coming together to raise money for 19-year-old Benito Santiago, a busboy at La Fogata in Irmo. He died Monday after his motorcycle crashed into an 18-wheeler. They want to give him a proper burial in his hometown in Mexico. Benito was the sole source of income for his mother and two younger siblings. Donation boxes are set up at the La Fogata locations in Irmo, Chapin and West Columbia. A GoFundMe page has been created and can be found at www.gofundme.com/f/benito-santiago-funeral-expenses.

Have you lost your Social Security Card? The Social Security Administration has expanded online services for residents of South Carolina through my Social Security portal at http://www.socialsecurity.gov/my-account .

Don’t forget to put the Chapin Labor Day Parade and festivities on your calendar for Monday, September 2. This year’s parade, arts and crafts, and good food are sure to create a lot of great memories!
