Elections have dominated our news for months with the culmination Nov. 3 when we voted.

Remember the good old days when technology was not as prevalent? Our former Mayor Hugh Rogers and former Election Commis sioner Marge Carter remember. They said election night was exciting. Local folks gathered at the old court house with blankets to sit on as they awaited the vote count. Numbers were flashed on the side of adjoining Harmon Drugstore, now Walker-Morgan Law Office. Some waited in their cars and honked their horns.

Marge says paper ballots were used and you walked over to a table and marked your choice. Voting was mostly held in churches and schools. Later booths and then computers came into play. Such a memorable time in this then small town before the age of modern technology.

Hugh Rogers was honored on his 90th birthday. Attorney Tim Driggers emceed a dinner in his honor Nov. 4 at the Flight Deck restaurant. Among those there were his loving wife Maro and daughters Myda and Margot, Cheryl Ann Morrison, Scott Adams, Horace Harmon, Gary and Mary Baker, Paula Calhoon, Donnie Myers, David and Becky Hipp, Ross and Brenda Snell, Doris Reynolds, Adrian Falgone, Ted Stambolitis, Leeds Barrow and congratulations were sent by Pete Oliver and Randy Halfacre.

Lexington’s Annual Holiday Open House Tour with 17 store participants was held last weekend. It was a delight to see Emily Lide Ward displaying her acrylic art on canvas in a pop up show at a local shop, Blush. In fact, she will be back there Saturday, Nov. 28. Visit her then. Emily is a graduate of the College of Charleston with a degree in Art History. She is the wife of Travis Ward and daughter of Carol and Dee Lide. Emily is on Instagram at E. Ward Originals.

Anne Bull reports: All around town you can see pumpkins still on doorsteps and Christmas trees in windows. What will our holiday be like in this covid era? The CDC has suggested no more than 6 gather at Thanksgiving. But you can have up to 30 at a funeral service. So if you are expecting a large crowd, just say your turkey died and you are having a fu neral for it!

A reader remarks: One sign that fall has arrived is the number of neighborhood yard sales. People are decluttering. If you are planning a yard sale, please give us 2 weeks notice and we will mention in this column.
