Did you hear a loud rumble? An earthquake was reported in the Cayce-West Columbia area early last Thursday morning.
The the U.S. Geological Survey said a 2.0 magnitude earthquake was reported 1.7 miles from Cayce.
West Columbia Assistant Police Chief Scott Morrison said the department’s “Computer Aided Dispatch” did not register an earthquake.
The rumbling and shaking could be felt at 3:45 a.m. and had a depth of 0.8 kilometers. It could be felt in the Sunset Boulevard area of West Columbia. No damage or injuries were reported.
Saluda River Academy for the Arts has been awarded an $11,291 Arts in Basic Curriculum grant from the S.C. Arts Commission, according to Dawn Kujawa, Lexington School District Two’s director of communication.
The grant will support several initiatives there, including funding artists-in-residence who will present programs in art, dance, theater and music. Title One Funds, Theater/Dance performance donations, SRAA’s PTO, parents, fundraisers, and others are helping SRAA meet its match for the grant.
Springdale kicks off the holiday season Dec. 2. with its annual Christmas tree lighting at 6 pm. Enjoy hot chocolate and s’mores while singing carols with the Springdale Elementary Chorus. Santa will be there to meet the children.
