AROUND CAYCE, SPRINGDALE & WEST COLUMBIA

Springdale is offering a lot of activities to get you outside this summer.

Planning is in full swing for the Springdale Summerfest and Golf Cart Parade, according to Mayor Michael Bishop. It is scheduled for June 29 and includes food, entertainment and activities. It’s in the centrally located Springdale Park.

Registration for the Golf Cart Parade is now open and Bishop reminds those who want to participate to “swing by Town Hall and complete your registration soon before all of the spots are gone.

“There is a summer theme for the Golf Cart Parade. We expect this event to be a big hit and we hope to have a great turnout! Everyone is invited and entry is free,” said Bishop.

If you are a business owner and you are interested in displaying a flyer or offering a sponsorship for the Springdale Summerfest, contact Municipal Clerk Leeann Eden at

(803) 794-0408. Call the Town Hall at 803-794-0408 for updates and information or visit Springdale’s Face-book page.

The Daddy and Me 5K is scheduled for June 15 at 2915 Platt Springs Road at 8 am.There will be “Dadlympics” (Olympic-type activities for the dads) immediately following the race. This event will include food, family fun, a DJ, dancing and awards for the 5K and “Dadlympics.” Proceeds benefit the Midlands Fatherhood Coalition, a nonprofit organization focused on engaging fathers in the positive support of their children. For information, call the Springdale Police Department at (803) 796-315.

The Springdale Police Department will host a one-day summer camp June 20 to allow children to learn the value of public service and to have some fun. Registration is closed as capacity has been reached. Springdale council members and police officers attended a community meeting June 11 in Sprindgdale’s Parrish Plantation
